Abstract Composition
by Andrew Spink
For this project, the idea was to create abstract imagery that was able to represent or describe feelings or emotion tied to things in our lives.  I chose to go with emotions or feelings that came from my profession.  Although specific to myself, I find that these are entirely relatable to everyone in the working world.  They are not necessarily specific to my job, but to all individuals.
The initial sketches above are to showcase the titles applied.  I decided to go with Punctuality, Stress, and Pressure as these are all common emotions or component's affiliated with the work that I do.  Punctuality in meaning describes being on time so I played around with continuity within the sketch.  The idea behind stress was to compile many objects weighing down on a singular object.  This was to me was too simple and valuing the critique from others, I decided to change this illustration completely. Pressure is an everyday emotion and I wanted to portray that with simple solid colors and lines to create a shading.
With careful consideration of the words as well as the critique from others, I was able to produce my first vector illustrations of the sketches I had created above.  I wanted these to be simple with just enough complexities to allow for the mind drift into the ideas that the words describe from the illustration.
The color arrangement I used was grayscale for all three illustrations.  I love neutral colors and I feel that they have the ability to orchestrate the emotions above.  However, The Stress illustration was not suitable to be an abstract composition due to being able to see that it was a face of some sort.  This had to change and along with that, the experimentation with color came into play.
PRESSURE.....PUNCTUALITY.....STRESS
